What we collect
We collect your email address when you create an account or subscribe to the weekly newsletter. We also store the RSVPs you submit and events you submit for community review. We do not collect any payment information.
Browser extension
The TownOutings Event Clipper browser extension collects page content from websites you choose to clip events from. This includes the page text, links, images, and metadata (such as Open Graph tags and structured data). This content is sent to our server where it is processed by AI to extract event details (title, date, location, description, etc.).
Your API key is stored locally in your browser using Chrome storage and is sent with each request to authenticate you. We do not store the raw page content after extraction is complete — only the structured event data is retained.
The extension does not run on any page unless you explicitly activate it. Auto-clip pages you configure will be visited in the background on a schedule you set, and their content processed the same way.
How we use it
Your information is used to send you event updates you signed up for, to confirm your RSVPs, and to notify you when a submitted event has been reviewed. We never sell your personal data to third parties.
Cookies
We use a single session cookie for authentication purposes only. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or any third-party analytics cookies.
Third-party services
Town Outings is hosted on Vercel, uses Neon for database hosting, and uses Anthropic's Claude AI to extract event details from web pages and forwarded emails. Events displayed on the site may include links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those external sites.
Data retention
You can delete your account at any time by contacting us at the address below. We will remove your personal data within 30 days of your request.
